Big results for Mayo athletes

The annual general meeting of Mayo AC will be held in the Beaten Path tonight, Friday March 19. The meeting will start at 8.30pm, however, Mayo AC committee members will be on hand from 8pm to collect 2010 membership subscriptions. It is important that as many members as possible attend to contribute, discuss, and decide plans for 2010, and ensure a wide range of activities is organised.

McHugh wins inaugural Cloonacool 5k

Mayo AC's TJ McHugh won the inaugural Cloonacool GAA 5k race/walk which took place last Sunday. One hundred and twenty runners and walkers took part in this well organised event in good conditions on an out-and-back course. Results: Men 1 TJ was followed home in second place by fellow Mayo AC runner Anto Devaney with David Kearins (Sligo AC) coming third. Other Mayo AC finishers were Dave Huane in sixth place and Tom Hunt and Christy O’Malley.

Mayo Athletics annual awards a great success

The annual Mayo Athletics Awards hosted by Mayo Athletics Board and sponsored by C&C Cellular/Vodafone took place at the McMillan Park Hotel, Claremorris, on Sunday. Mayo AC celebrated their most successful year so far with 20 members nominated for awards. All of them won national medals as individuals or as part of a team in track, field, and road running championships in 2008. Among the nominees for senior and masters categories, Mayo AC athletes won four of the five awards. They were Anne Lennon, Women, Masters Road Racing; Ronnie Naylor, Masters Male High Achievement; Catherine Conway/Mary Gleeson shared Senior Women Road Racing; Tom Hunt, Masters Male Road Racing.

Medal wins for Mayo athletes in National Marathon Championships

The AAI National Marathon Championships were incorporated in the 30th running of the Dublin City Marathon held on Bank Holiday Monday. The atmosphere was tremendous all along the streets of Dublin and Mayo AC runners in their highly visible red and green singlets experienced fantastic support. They ran in teams and as individuals and seven of the 16 athletes won medals - a wonderful haul. But as always, every finisher was a winner.
